Cavtat & Konavle Valley
The Dubrovnik Riviera's hidden side — in half a day
Cavtat is 17 kilometres south of Dubrovnik — close enough to do in a morning or afternoon, far enough to feel like a different world. The town sits on a small peninsula between two bays, with a promenade of old stone buildings, a Franciscan monastery and a harbour full of boats. It is elegant and quiet in a way that Dubrovnik's old town can no longer be.
The highlight for many visitors is the Račić Family Mausoleum on the promontory above town — a circular domed structure designed by Ivan Meštrović in 1922, one of his finest works and largely unknown outside Croatia. The views from the promontory are exceptional.
The Konavle valley runs inland behind Cavtat — a flat agricultural valley of vineyards, fig trees and traditional villages that feels completely removed from the coast. A drive through the valley, with an optional stop at a local konoba for wine, rounds out the half day.
Questions about this tour
Can we walk to Cavtat from Dubrovnik?+
Not really — it is 17km by road. The quickest way is by car (about 25 minutes) or by boat from the old harbour (about 45 minutes). We offer the car transfer.
Is the Račić mausoleum open to visitors?+
Yes, with a small entry fee of approximately €5 per person. It is worth it — the interior is extraordinary and rarely crowded.
Can this be combined with the airport transfer?+
Yes — if you are departing from or arriving at Dubrovnik Airport, we can route via Cavtat, which is only 10 minutes from the airport. A good way to use time before a late flight.
